1. Why do we use polymer and what advantages does it have over traditional materials?

We are committed to taking fins to the next level. Consistent with our innovative approach, we looked for modern materials with strength and flex characteristics that would optimise the performance of our designs.

The polymer we chose was developed by a Swiss company to eventually replace metal in the car industry (a ‘metal replacement’ polymer). It produces fins that are incredibly strong, light, with great flex rebound.

2. Why do the fins look plastic?

Our fins are made from modern, complex ‘metal replacement’ polymers, which are very different from the simple plastics used on current non-fibreglass fins products. They look similar on the outside, but they are very, very different on the inside! Metal replacement polymers are specially designed to be incredibly strong, light, with great flex rebound

Using metal replacement polymers also allow us to use modern, precise and repeatable manufacturing techniques which maximise the performance of our innovative designs.

3. Why are our fins more expensive?

We are committed to taking fins to the next level. We have spent years developing and protecting a range of innovative fin technologies, and will be continuing to invest in research and development to push fin performance to new heights.

4. Why does the box include fin pouches?

These travel pouches are included to protect fins while travelling.

5. How strong are the fins? Are they designed to break off at the tab?

The fins are as strong as traditional dual or twin tabs fins and are designed to break at the tab under extreme pressure.

6. Why does the fin come in one standard size?

The stability and hold offered by Quobba’s innovative fins mean that smaller fins will support larger surfers. Our standard fin size was developed to be extremely versatile and be ridden by most surfers in a variety of conditions.

Quobba is keenly aware that some larger surfers will require a larger fin template. In this respect Quobba is pleased to announce they are coming very soon.

7. On international purchases is duty payable?

Duty, taxes and import costs vary country to country and these Government regulations change often. Please consult your local regulator.

8. Why did it cost so much to develop these fins?

We are committed to taking fins to the next level. We have spent years developing and protecting a range of innovative fin technologies, and will be continuing to invest in research and development to push fin performance to new heights.
